MOGADISHU (Am) – Al-Shabab militants have attacked Qoryooley town, about 120 km South of the capital, a local source told (AM)on Sunday.
On Saturday night, the militants started the attack with motor shells raided the town before attacking the town from different directions prompting half an hour clash between the militants and the security forces.
Residents in the town confirmed the attack saying Al-Shabaab fighters were repelled by the security forces. No casualties have been reported.
In a statement posted on pro-Shabaab media, the militant group claimed to have killed several Somali soldiers. Al-Shabaab fighters have been carrying out attacks against government forces in recent weeks.
Qoryooley which is agricultural town was once Al-Shabaab stronghold before the allied forces captured it.
